Overall purpose of the job
•To collect and share accurate and comprehensive information that meets the needs of Operations Staff and the Programme Officer (PO) as tasked by the Community Liaison Manager (CLM)
•To make positive links with leaders and other key community members in order to aid the implementation of efficient and effective MAG operations
Principal responsibilities
•Visit communities to liaise with leaders and other key people to gather details about the location, its contamination and the problems caused by the contamination (using interviews, meetings, observation, cross checking, mapping and photographs).
•Accurately document this information using agreed forms, maps, photographs and additional notes
•Identify and carry out the necessary liaison with leaders, TFMs and other key stakeholders before, during, at the handover of land and after clearance
•Complete post-clearance assessments. Liaise with the CLM regarding results and discuss possible future improvements (for CLM to pass on to TOM)
•Identify and collect good quality case study information and photographs
•Gather full details of accidents not shown on the MACC IMSMA as tasked by the CLM
•Highlight to the CLM the need for any additional action in the area of operations (e.g. CLO liaison with risk-taking group or request for another agency to carry out MRE). Implement as required
•Check quality of all information/maps before leaving the field and before passing to the CLM
•Assist in information management as required
•Update CLM on the situation on the ground
•Complete reports as required by the CLM
•Assist CLM in fulfilling Arabic media and other public relations requests if required
•Assist CLM in delivering MRE if requested by the MRE Steering Board if required
•Liaise with the CLM regarding CLO resource needs
•Manage available time in the community to insure sufficient and comprehensive information has been gathered.
•Recognize that every community is unique and that different people know different information. As such the CLO must adapt his/her approach and reformulate questions if necessary to accommodate people’s understanding.
•Tally information from different sources and use their initiative and good judgment.
•May request the assistance of the CLM at any stage of the CL process.
•Disseminate safety information to all stakeholders especially those living in the vicinity of CBU/Minefield.
•Is responsible for MAG equipment in her/his care: GPS, Camera and any other material handed to her/him to fulfill designated tasks.
•Aware of gender mainstreaming and ready to participate in gender awareness courses/training.
